I applied for numerous jobs, to include two positions at the St. Louis city government office. Despite having 20 years of honorable military service, the Mayor's office sent two letters stating that I was not qualified for a Laborer and Utility Worker position. Perhaps even more concerning is that I held Laborer and Utility worker jobs after my military career. Clear ageism (I am over 50) is at play here, as well as discrimination against military retirees. I am attempting to re-enter the workforce after my wife left the military last year and after I was a stay-at-home dad to our young child. It was also impossible to find a job with all of the military moves when my wife was in the military. Now all people look at is the gaps in employment on my resume. Employers don't seem to care.
