Stop Long Term Solitary Confinement

Created by S.K. on June 06, 2014

Whereas solitary confinement is seen as a human rights violation by most international bodies and the United States has over 80,000 prisoners in solitary confinement.. We petition the United States Government to:

Instate State Boards so that anyone placed in solitary confinement can have their case reviewed in under 1 weeks time. This board should be made up of at least 3 panel members and be separate from the prison staff and system as to maintain an unbiased perspective.

End long term solitary confinement (solitary confinement lasting longer than 1 years time) for all prisoners except those awaiting execution on death row.

Reserve solitary confinement for prisoners exhibiting violent behavior to themselves and others. Nonviolent crimes should be exempt from solitary confinement.
