Whereas Colorado and Washington have voted to legalize marijuana for recreational use, we herewith petition the Federal government to prohibit this action by honoring our country's International Drug Treaties and enforcing Federal law.
Based on scientific evidence, marijuana is a dangerous drug that can only serve to the detriment of all people in the US, particularly young people in underserved communities.
Marijuana is known to cause permanent brain damage, addiction, psychosis and birth defects. Marijuana negatively impacts educational outcomes, crime, traffic safety and physical as well as mental health.
The social, human and economic harms of marijuana vastly exceed any perceived benefits, and we urge you to use all resources at your disposal to enforce Federal anti-drug laws.
