Medical debt should be considered involuntary debt, and should NOT be reported to the credit agencies. Millions of Americans have had medical emergencies that they simply could not afford, have no health care, inadequate health care, and are forced into bankruptcy because of these factors. As a lender, I see people every day who pay all of their voluntary debts on time, as agreed, but who have terrible credit scores due to their medical debt. These Americans are denied loans to purchase homes, vehicles, etc... only because they have had the misfortune of accruing medical bills. Many hospitals will turn patients over to collections just because they they cannot pay their bill in full, or the insurance company has made an error.
