"The Fastest Place on Earth" now lies in ruin.
The Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management, despite it's mandate to protect public lands, has allowed mining to destroy the racing surface.
The largest annual event, Speedweek, has been canceled for the last two years (2014, 2015) due to lack of safe racing suface.
This petition requests a permanent moritorium of mining the Federal leases comprising the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Further, that the reclamation clause of the lease be enacted.
Land speed racing has been an American tradition with international participation and prestige for over 100 years.
