Central Appalachia is being sacrificed by greedy mining corporations who are destroying one of the world's most diverse environments, and calling it energy security. It is not energy security. This coal is for export on open market. Families are being displaced, communities destroyed, and people are actually getting very sick. Moreover, if fossil fuels are being replaced, there is absolutely 'no reason' for this destruction to occur, when other mining techniques would meet any 'real' energy needs that remain from coal. We recognize that coal is important for energy, and that coal mining is part of our heritage. But to steal the future for families and communities who have been here for 250 years is just plain WRONG, and GREEDY. We need, our mountains intact!
