It costs about 1.8 cents to make one penny, which means that it costs more to mint a penny than the penny is worth. You can buy exactly nothing for a penny these days, and those that use pennies to give exact change are wasting their time and the time of all those in line behind them. Pennies are not worth the effort to count, store, and transport them. Getting rid of the penny will not raise prices nor hurt donations.
We need to stop throwing money away on a currency that no longer serves its function. Stop minting pennies!
