Stop minting pennies and consider increasing the circulation of one dollar coins.

Created by B.L. on January 25, 2013

The penny is a useless unit of currency and should no longer be minted. The materials used to mint a penny are valued at a price greater than $0.01. Many nations around the world have removed their one cent coin and have seen little to no negative consequence. In addition to removing the penny, a more universal use of dollar coins would allow the government to eventually stop printing dollar bills. Coins last longer than bills, and thus allow the Mint to keep currency is circulation longer due to increased durability.
