SS needs to be revamped to afford Seniors a decent life. Many are barely making ends meet even though they have contributed for decades. It is reported if seniors were to get the actual amount they contributed, many could be receiving up to $28K instead of the $12 to $15K they currently receive. When a spouse dies, their spouse's SS benefits are determined by whoever has the highest SS check thus losing an income they have become dependent on. The $250 they receive for burial is hardly a help when you have already lost someone you love and their income. Yet social security continues receiving annual interest from the deceased. Social Security should be responsible for a person's burial. Seniors are not asking for a hand-out, only what is due them.
