This petition is important for many reasons,
First , the city does not belong to Israel and with a move as such, they would be claiming the capital to be theirs. In its essence, the land is not theirs, and the capital city of Jerusalem is in no way to be placed a holder of the U.S.'s embassy.
Second, the peace process can be completely at risk with such a move. The move of the U.S. embassy is signifying a loss of hope for any peace negotiations, and will most likely cause an uproar in Palestine and other places as well. Also, this move would violate Oslo peace agreements.
The President of Palestine himself wrote a letter to Trump stating that the move of the embassy “will likely have [a] disastrous impact on the peace process, on the two-state solution and on security of the region.."
