It's questionable about who's rights are being taken away by our current gun policy (or lack of). Literally thousands of innocent people die each year from gun violence. Who's protecting their freedom?
If a person feels they are capable of owning an assault riffle or a hand gun in a civilized society, then why not have them prove it: proper background checks, proper licensing, mandatory gun registration and require a special permit for anything that isn't a bolt action and if you own more than 5 guns say, then you should be classified as a collector and need a permit for that too.
