We the people ask the federal government to Take or explain a position on an issue or policy:

Stop needless car accidents

Created by M.N. on December 20, 2016

This is a very important issue that needs to be solved. By signing this petition, you could save lives. Approximately 1/3 of all car crashes are caused by tailgating or the failure to stop a vehicle before crashing into the one in front of you. There are about 2,000 deaths and 950,000 injuries per year due to this. We are trying to create a law that requires all drivers to keep a certain distance from the car in front of them to prevent injuries and damage. At 60 mph, by the time you realize that you need to stop, you have already traveled about 60 feet. The reaction time of a driver can cause an accident if you don't have enough space to stop. For every 10 miles per hour, we want every driver to space themselves at least an additional 10 feet from the vehicle in front of them.
