stop offshore drilling of the Arctic.

Created by J.G. on June 07, 2015

An oil spill isn’t the only risk that Arctic drilling poses to the environment. Methane and black carbon, two potent greenhouses gases, will likely be emitted in significant amounts. Unforgiving conditions in the Arctic’s icy waters not only make the chances of a spill likely, the complete lack of infrastructure in place to deal with a potential disaster means the consequences would be calamitous, as environmental studies say. Can anyone really responsibly believe that Shell could do the job an order of magnitude better than it has been done in the past? The time is NOW to STOP offshore drilling in the Arctic. Instead we need to implement technology that allows improved energy efficiency as well as implement the use of clean renewable energy technology.
