As of October 1st, 2013, the United States Congress has been unable to pass a budget. As a result, many government services will be shut down, and many government workers will not be paid.
Congress should not be the only ones who don't suffer during a government shutdown. If their actions are going to cause middle-class citizens to lose their jobs and their pay, then Congress should lose their pay instead.
Until the government passes a new budget, all members of Congress should have their pay blocked, and the funds should instead be used to pay other government workers who would otherwise lose their pay during the government shutdown. Congress should not be paid again until they do their jobs and pass a budget.
