Our tax code currently penalizes any citizen that lives in a state with high taxes by limiting the deductibility of those taxes. No citizen should have to pay income tax on income they used to pay income or property tax to their home state, city, county or whatever jurisdiction may be. With that in mind, citizens should be allowed to deduct the interest on their primary home mortgage. Those two deductions together would never prevent anyone from paying their fair share of income tax to the federal government, Help stop taxation of taxes.
