Stop the Poaching of Elephants NOW!

This petition is for the banning of all new and old ivory coming into the United States in an effort to stop the slaughtering of thousands of elephants each year for their ivory tusks. The current law only addresses old ivory, however, it is nearly impossible to tell old ivory from newly hunted ivory. Therefore, people are still bringing in new ivory and shamefully the United States is the second largest ivory retail market. It is estimated that 33,000 elephants are killed each year, so a law merely banning old ivory is ineffective and at current rates of poaching, elephants many not survive another ten years in the wild. It is imperative that the United States takes a strict ban on ALL ivory entering the country.
