Stop the Practice of Civil Forfeiture

Civil forfeiture is the practice done by our police forces in the United States of America, where they have the legal right to take any “suspicious” objects you are carrying, if you are suspected of a crime. This system has been greatly abused. In one case a man was driving to San Francisco with $2400 in cash that his dad had lent him to start a new job, when he was pulled over. The officer found nothing, but decided to keep the cash that he had found in the vehicle, because he suspected the driver (without evidence) of traveling to California to buy drugs. He was presumed guilty without any conclusive evidence. Our legal system is based upon “Innocent until proven guilty”. Yet, there have been over 61000 cash seizures like this under this law from people who were not charged with a crime.
