Stop producing pennies (the penny) and the one-dollar ($1) bill; move to the one-dollar ($1) coin and two-dollar bill

Created by C.S. on January 17, 2013

A penny costs 1.23 cents to make and has virtually no value in today's enconomy. Replacing the $1 bill with the $1 coin is estimated to save $5.6 Billion over 30 years. Other first-world nations use $1 coins. Vending machines will work better with coins. Cash registers can replace the "penny box" with the "$1 coin box" and the "$1 bin" with the "$2 bin". Canadians have a $1 and $2 coin; those that don't like to carry coins toss them in a jar at home occasionally make a car payment.
It is long past time to take sensible steps to save money and to make America's currency more relevant today's costs.
