According to the 2013 annual report from the US Mint, it costs 1.83 cents to produce 1 cent. This is just one reason why the US government should discontinue the production of the one cent coin.
Furthermore, the US Mint is 58.6 million dollars in the hole because of penny prodution in the year 2013 alone. That is 58.6 million tax dollars wasted.
Calling our leaders to action on a problem like this is what we should do as tax paying citizens. Stop minting the penny to save us time at the register and to save our tax dollars!
