Stop production of the penny

Ever since 2006, It's cost more than one cent to make a penny. And in that time, that ratio has only gotten worse. Dozens of other countries have already gotten rid of the penny (or its equivalent) without any negative repercussions. Not only is the very existence of the penny costing billions of dollars in wasted money, but there are no real benefits of having them anymore. Machines don't take them, you can't purchase anything with them, etc. And even if you could, the supply of non-renewable zinc that they are composed of is disappearing rapidly. We propose to get rid of the penny, and then enact a rounding system for all cash transactions. Pennies would still be accepted currency, but would not be returned as change, etc, similar to the COIN Act proposed by Rep. Jim Kolbe in 2006.
