Today, both the penny and the nickle cost more to make than they are worth. The penny costs about $0.017 to make and is worth only $0.01 and the nickle costs about $0.09 to make and is worth only $0.05! Millions of dollars a year a spent on the creation of new pennies and nickles. In the end, they are costing the United States of America more money to produce than they are worth. This is one of the first steps to help fix our economy, to help fix our debt. Look at other countries who have taken the step to only eliminate the penny from circulation; countries like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have not seen any negative effects from this.
