Too many kids are getting suspended, expelled, and even arrested over toy guns or talking about guns. Kids should not be penalized for being kids. Zero tolerance gun rules should only apply to actual weapons and firearms, not toys and words.
Recently a child was suspended and arrested for writing a story where he had the character shoot a dinosaur. This is going too far. Our children are getting penalized for things most of us have done ourselves in our childhood.
Signing this petition will ask that schools only be allowed to apply zero tolerance rules for actual weapons. Suspensions, expulsions, and arrests should not be allowed simply for talking about guns or a toy nerf gun.
