The United States is finalizing a deal that will give 38 billion dollars to Israel. On the face of it, this sounds like a profoundly stupid idea but, when you consider our deteriorating infrastructure, the fact that we do not have single-payer healthcare, that Texas is depriving disabled children of basic education, that college students begin their adult lives thousands of dollars in debt, that our deficit is in the trillions, that our streets are teeming with homeless, mentally ill, that our veterans (of which I am one) receive sub-standard care from the VA, this decision to squander our money on people who don't like us, can only be viewed as depraved indifference toward the citizens of the United States.
