By signing this petition, we state firmly that, in our opinion, the move by this government to shut down the U.S. embassy to the Holy See is not only an insult to a sovereign nation, but to the more than 78 million Roman Catholic constituents in the United States.
Former U.S. Ambassador James Nicholson has stated that the existing embassy facility has "state of the art" security. Therefore, we do not accept the explanation that this closure is due to "security concerns," but rather reflects this government's continued hostility toward the Catholic Church.
We ask that you prove us wrong and follow the will of your constituents by maintaining the current embassy to the Holy See.
