Stop the Social Security "Marriage Tax" Where a married couple is paid substantially less is some cases single couples

Created by D.P. on June 27, 2014

Married couples on SSI are treated differently then unmarried couples. They are paid at a married rate that is sometimes substantialy less then an unmarried couple living together. In some states a married couple is expected to live on $1086 + about $200 in food stamps a month. While an unmarried couple in the same state can make as much $1360 + $400 a month in food stamps. If one person in the couple is on SSDI the same $1086 limit applies until the spouses SSI is taken away due to the other spouses income which can be as little as $1150 a month. While the same unmarried couple can in some cases can make as much as $3000 a month + $200 in food stamps In states like California the difference can be much higher in cash but no food stamps in California. This is unfair and should be changed.
