The South Carolina House of Representatives has proposed a bill, H-4632, to merge the College of Charleston with the Medical University of South Carolina. The bill also states that the name of each institution is to be changed; College of Charleston will be change to Charleston University George Street Campus, and MUSC will be changed to Charleston University Medical Campus. Faculty and Students at both institutions are opposed to the bill, both for its change to the way the institutions are run, and to the changing of their traditional names.
