Spam is still out of control.
Congress directed the FTC to study and report on the prospect of adopting a Federal Do-Not-Email list similar to the Federal Do-Not-Call List.
The study concluded that spammers would most likely use a registry for verifying e-mail addresses and to obtain children's email addresses
The FTC completely misses the point. There are over 27 million businesses in the US. Opting out of each list could take years for an individual to complete. When we opt out of a list they sell our email list to another spammer.
We should have the option to put our addresses on the Federal DoNotSPAM list. Spammers already have our email addresses! In addition, the FTC could charge a fee to scrub email lists instead of providing spams with a complete list of all addresses.
