Staples wants to purchase Office Depot. Staples is the #1 office supply company in the U.S., and wants to buy Office Depot, which is #2. This merger of giants is anti-competitive and will result in higher prices for consumers. In addition, thousands of jobs will be lost because Staples will shutter hundreds of Office Depot stores.
Staples tried to buy Office Depot in the mid-2000s, and the government shut down the merger on anti-competition grounds. We are asking that the Obama administration block this merger for this reason.
