Many states, including my own home state of North Carolina are passing and enforcing laws that contradict the U.S. Constitution by stripping citizens' rights, and imposing undue burdens through ex post facto laws.
These laws, if being passed in any other country, would constitute human rights violations and we would be outraged.
A few examples: retroactive property taxes that cause middle class and low income families to become homeless (this one is happening to me right now, NC SB159), laws that deny citizens' rights to redress grievances, laws that circumvent federal minimum wage and further target specific classes (disabled, low income, students, the elderly) for a payment of LESS than the federal minimum wage.
It is time to hold all US States accountable to the US Constitution.
