Businesses and Industries that pollute our land, water or air should not be subsidized by our government as this is the same as endorsing violation of the health of our citizens and the very resources we need to survive. Not only should subsidies be removed, penalties should be applied or increased. Such penalties are incurred by those companies every month until the pollution ceases. If the pollution does not stop by the end of 12 months, the company must shut down until retrofitting is completed.
Simultaneous efforts to clean up the pollution must start right away. The efforts to comply can employ many more people around the country. Industry should never be outside the community; any industry's first rule should be "Do No Harm"; and indifference has consequences.
