Stop sugar subsidies now, in order to: Create American jobs-Lower consumer prices-Lower our budget deficit

Created by J.B. on September 28, 2011

Subsidizing sugar in the United States is very shortsighted. Not only is it an inefficient way of supporting the American economy, but it is counterproductive. Beyond being just a form of corporate welfare, and become an active evil.
This program doubles the price of sugar for consumers in the US. Because of this, when a company needs to include sugar in its product, it has to pay twice as much as it would otherwise. Many of these companies move to foreign countries with lower prices.
Studies show that every job saved in the sugar industry costs $826,000 per year. In addition to this, three jobs are lost in sugar-using industries for every job saved in the sugar industry. In this time of budget crisis, why are we spending tens of millions a year to kill jobs?
