Stop Super PACs

Created by M.L. on February 06, 2012

The Supreme Court case Citizens United v FEC formed a political fundraising organization funded by corporate general treasury funds — super PACs (Political Action Committees). These groups legally advocate for the election or defeat of a candidate without coordinating with the official campaign and often do not reveal donors. Using this money to influence votes gives corporations more power in elections compared to private individuals.

Our solution is to pass a constitutional amendment specifying that any entity practicing electioneering communication must register as a PAC and is required to release all contributors. Disclosure creates accountability for the PAC and candidate.

If corporations fund political advertisements their agenda will influence actions of public office holders.
