We fought for independence over taxation without representation, but millions of Americans have been stripped of their legal right to vote. With the privatization of the prison industry, prisoners have increasingly become slave labor with no say in their treatment or elected officials. Everyone with American citizenship should be allowed to vote. By taking away felons voting rights and making it difficult to have them restored even after release, we are disenfranchising our people and excluding them from the larger society. This needs to stop now.
