Currently Veterans who are forced into early retirement from all branches of the military are required to give up their retirement pay in order to receive disability payments from the VA. Recent changes have granted many Veterans the opportunity to receive both military Retirement Pay, as well as disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs. These two forms of compensation should not be linked. Veterans earn their retirement pay for serving in the military and earn their disability benefits from injuries occuring while serving.
H.R.333, the Disabled Veterans Tax Termination Act, has been presented in various forms for several years and is constantly sent to committee to die. Encourage Congress to call a vote on this bi-partisan piece of legislature immediately.
