Executive orders were NEVER meant to be the "law of the land." They were meant to set policies for the president's cabinet and "direct reports." Unfortunately, the federal government has grown so enormous that there are literally millions of employees that fall under the executive branch. This has caused presidents (past and present) to issue executive orders as a means to bypass Congress, thereby conferring upon themselves dictatorial powers.
This COMPLETELY violates the separation of powers spelled out in our Constitution!
This practice MUST be stopped!!
If the president wants a law passed...he MUST go to Congress. If it won't pass there...TOO BAD!
