As a newer teacher, I have faced the effects of the constant slicing of the education budget in our school system. For the past three years we have cut and cut employees with the end result being larger class-sizes and less interventions for students in need. We cannot afford books or programs, and our current ones are extremely outdated. We cannot afford computers in an era centered around technology. We cannot even provide children with a school nurse. And this isn't isolated to our county.
Something has to change! The only thing that is suffering is our future. How can we expect to compete with other countries with the bare bones education we have now?
Education has to become a serious priority in government budgets, or our country is in serious peril. Change has to come now!
