Through the use of cell site simulators, known as StingRay cell phone trackers or the more advanced Hailstorm towers, local police forces have the ability to collect private cell phone data, such as the phone’s location, the numbers the phone is contacting, and even recordings of conversations, without a warrant. These devices are used by numerous police forces to collect private citizen data without a warrant or sometimes even a valid reason; a serious breach of the 9th Amendment and a blatant disregard for the civil liberties which construct the freedom of the U.S. These trackers are not regulated by the federal government and the warrant-less collection of private data goes unpunished; behaviors which must be reverted and corrected for the well being and freedom of the country.
