The US Census has been strong-arming citizens of this country for years to participate in the American Community Survey without disregard for privacy. It's representatives use scare tactics to obtain private information via harassment and other means. They also go the extra mile to threaten it's citizens with fines ranging in excess of $5,000. Information needed to be obtained by the US Census from it's citizens cannot be that detrimental to the their cause. Their intentions for obtaining such information only creates mistrust of the federal government. And discourages American citizens from ever participating in any future surveys that, in fact, might be important to our country. I'm sure there are citizens who don't mind participating in such surveys of their own free will.
