Stop the use of assault weapons by government officials against US citizens on US soil as a first step to banning them.

Created by D.P. on February 20, 2013

If the ownership of assault weapons is to be denied to US citizens they should have the assurance that the government will not use assault weapons against its own people. Many people justify the ownership of assault weapons because they do not trust the government. The banning of the use of assault weapons by the government would be a good first step to building this missing trust. This ban could be enacted as part of the same legislation that would ban assault weapon ownership by private citizens linking one to the other. The use of assault weapons on US soil should require approval by a governor or the President and should only be granted in the case of some foreign threat.
