A large part of being a truck driver is inspecting our equipment to make sure it is safe to operate. Unfortunately this isn't possible. Tube type tires or specifically the inner tubes themselves are impossible to inspect, without actually removing the tire.
Unfortunately tube type tires are not as strong as radials and fail when placed under heavier weight, they also don't take to well to heat while driving during the summer or other road hazards like the occasional nail.
With inner tubes the cheapest way to repair them is to patch them, unfortunately these patches are not a permanent fix. With the current way of thinking, that's fine as long as it fails while the next guy has it.
It's time to make tube type tires Illegal and require radial tires on all intermodal chassis's
