The electoral college takes the power away from the people. It makes our votes for the president mean nothing. When America was founded the point was for the power to be in the people's hand, not the government's hand.
Even though the electoral college hasn't been too different than the popular vote in the past, it has happened before (election of 2000).
If the electoral college is no more and the power is put back in the people's hand it will give the people more motivation to vote since their vote will actually mean something besides a fancy number on the news.
