Stop using the Latino/a ethnonym to describe people of varied South/Central American and Caribbean ethnicities.

Created by L.C. on March 17, 2014

Latino and Latina are innacurate and condescending labels misused by the media & often followed by the words "poor, minority and immigrant." The original definition of Latin applies to the Roman Empire, therefore it should not be limited to describing people from Spanish-speaking countries. The ethnonym Latino/a does not accurately describe the indigenous peoples (e.g.,Mayans) of South/Central America and the Caribbean. Please remove this label from all official forms and the American lexicon.
