Social Security numbers are used as Medicare ID numbers and are printed on Medicare cards. Seniors are instructed to keep their Medicare cards on them, but since the cards contain their Social Security numbers they are increasing their risk of identity theft. States were required to remove Social Security numbers from driver's licenses in 2004 - it's 10 years later and it's time stop using Social Security numbers as Medicare ID numbers to help protect our seniors from identity theft.
On my radio show and in my volunteer help center, we receive calls daily regarding identity theft. We are at a loss when seniors call us regarding their Medicare ID cards. Please join us in asking Washington to change this policy and protect our seniors’ identities!
