As it currently stands, inmates in federal prisons are allowed to have gender transformation surgeries and hormone therapy treatments funded by the US tax payers. This petition is designed to ask President Obama and our government to prevent tax payers from being forced to foot the bill for this optional medical procedure. If an inmate wishes to undergo a gender transformation anytime during a trial or after being convicted, it should not be the US tax payers responsibility to pay for a non-life threatening, unnecessary surgery or treatment. This surgery or treatment should be funded by the inmates own monetary accounts, and not until after their time has been served.
