In May 2016, there has been protests in major cities of Vietnam every Sunday in response to the failure of the Hanoi government in investigating the environmental disaster experienced in central provinces of Vietnam.
The protests were met with excessive force from the paramilitary and the police. People who participated in these peaceful protests were violently assaulted and retaliated.
In an effort to exterminate the protests, the Vietnamese government has blocked Facebook during every weekend in May.
We call on the President to address these issues with the Government of Vietnam. Blocking a legitimate U.S. business from operating and more importantly, suppressing the Vietnamese people from exercising their right to freedom of expression is unlawful and not acceptable.
