Stop Waiving the Child Soldiers Protection Act

Created by M.G. on February 07, 2013

We hereby petition the President to stop waiving the application of any portion of the Child Soldiers Protection Act of 2008 (CSPA) (title IV, Public Law 110-457).

This act is designed to protect child soldiers by punishing countries that use them, including by banning the sale of weapons. By waiving a portion of the law as the president has consistently done (specifically, the part about selling arms) the law is left without teeth and those countries are effectively given a pass on child exploitation.

It is highly ironic that at the same time the president is coming out both against human trafficking and in favor of "doing something about gun violence" in this country, he is actively encouraging both child exploitation and arms proliferation in other countries. Stop it now.
