STOP the Weather Channel from arbitrarily naming winter storms -- it's stupid, alarmist and abuses the work of NOAA/NWS

Created by D.S. on December 26, 2012

The Weather Channel has taken it upon itself to name winter storms as if they were all like hurricanes. Hurricanes are named for a reason. There's a reason winter storms are not named. The Weather Channel is naming winter storms to "brand" the weather, heighten anxiety and "own" the story. This would all be fine if it weren't so simply stupid. This is the weather. It's people's lives. It also abuses the good work of the NOAA/National Weather Service.

The Weather Channel can name anything it likes that it owns. It does not yet own the weather and acts in no official capacity to name the weather. It should stop.

Also, AccuWeather and Weather Underground provide perfectly good weather reports without treating the American People like complete morons. Give them a commendation.
