Welfare is a great fall back to have for those in need, but often it is abused by those who don't wish to carry their own fiscal burden. Instead there are many who live on the system their whole lives collecting checks, receiving free health care, cable, and housing while the middle class struggled to have food in their own fridge. They use the tax payer dollars that are supposed to help them transition back to being a productive member of society to fund cigarettes, alcohol, lottery tickets, and even vacations! In an economy facing insurmountable debt there should be a system in place preventing such fraud. There's a hotline but that rarely amounts to much. This is a growing problem that needs to be addressed. At the very least they could be doing community service.
