The National Academy of Science calls the “badly fragmented” and “unscientific” This is both a financial and public safety issue as evidence by the hundreds of people wrongfully convicted of crimes based at least in part on bad forensic evidence. They were convicted because forensic science failed them during their trials. This costs the tax payers millions of dollars each year through the cost of imprisonment, re-litigation and restitution. Furthermore, the guilty individual is free to commit other crimes, which poses a threat to public safety. We urge the White House to address these issues by implementing the suggestions made by the National Academy of Sciences report and codified in S.132 The Forensic Science and Criminal Justice Reform Act of 2011.
