Approving similar VA benefits simultaneously will save the VA time and money, reduce the VA backlog and expedite needed benefits to veterans.
Currently, a veteran known to require 40+ hours of care per week by the VA Post-9/11 Caregiver program must file a separate claim to prove that he or she is unable to maintain "substantially gainful employment" in order to prove eligibility for the Individual Unemployability (IU) benefit.
Why?
A veteran needing 40+ hours of care is obviously incapable of gainful employment. The VA already has the evidence it needs yet the current system dictates that extensive paperwork, time and VA resources are required to establish eligibility for IU.
Approving the veteran for one program, contingent on approval to the other, benefits veterans AND the VA.
